moved into the dorm today. then quested on for a phone, which was sehr stresslig, then walked around the ringstraße, around the Prater (a strangely high mean age), up into the sky on a really really high swing ride where I saw the incredible sprawl of wien bordered by the mountains and the horizon, then back around the ringstraße a little bit. had some kaffee und kuchen in ein kaffeehaus.
then i went to dinner with my VCU class. i got some really delicious bread dumpling with egg dish and mehr weißbier, which i've learned about .2 liters makes me a little buzzed on an empty stomach. good job ellie.
people are nice! but it seems like the whole class, except for me and the girl who has keine deutsch, are on the same level of being able to…for example, order something specific in the restaurant. right now, i feel like it's very tempting to go off by myself and live in the art museums/draw outside/kaffee trinken and not have to deal with this, but that is Not (All Of) Why I Am Here. it would be so easy though...
welll i'm definitely accumulating a lot of new words just by seeing them everywhere. also, understanding mystery words more intuitively. deutsch is like putting together puzzles. besides the grammatical structure being very rigid (everything in its right place), modifying pronouns are key! i just gotta catch 'em all. ich müss sie fangen!
from what i've seen, the city of wien isn't seizing me by the heart or anything. i don't know. i like that it is very easy to get around in -- the U-bahn goes everywhere really fast and efficiently and is basically free, then there's the tramcars that run all around the 7. bezirk (my district!) at least (probably everywhere, but i haven't figured that out yet), and the bike lanes! i plan to obtain access to a bike ASAP. but there is no love for me yet. that view of the whole city i got today for a few minutes, though…i didn't expect that. HOWEVER, i am EXTREMELY EXCITED to go to the kunsthistoriches museum, the leopold museum, and the kunst haus wien mostly for the MASSIVE COLLECTIONS OF EGON SCHIELE WORKS sdkfhsfdhl; also klimt and kokoschka and the jan fabre exhibit and the dürer/kranach/other gut exhibit and all that business. oh, and HUNDERTWASSER, mein gott! i will eat these people for dinner, every night.
right now, i'm sitting in my very empty dorm suite (no one else has moved in…….:C ), racing my computer battery to the death. this next month is going to be super busy, but i'm going to absorb like crazy, ja?
